SPYDER ACTIVE SPORTS
Spyder's 2017-2018 seasonal assortment coincided with the 2018 Winter Olympics, and the brand's 40th Anniversary. I used the combination of events to do a historical reimagination/refresh for the brand, mixing heritage Spyder designs with next-generation fabrications. I designed the official U.S. Olympic Ski Team uniforms, basing them off of heritage designs from the iconic 1970s and 1980s when Spyder was experiencing cult-status as a new ski brand.
As part of the overall line development, I also pitched a complete rebrand/upgrade to the trims, hangtags, snaps, zipper pulls, and other hardware, platforming the designs off the Olympic Uniforms, and tying the entire brand story together from top to bottom. |
2017/2018 outerwear
Outerwear was the primary revenue driver for the brand, so the season-to-season challenge was moving design and technology forward without altering the brand DNA that makes Spyder a must-have for athletes across North America, South America, Europe, and Asia. Innovation centered on new construction techniques including seamless taping, single-piece patterning, and interior chassis designed to maximize comfort and airflow without sacrificing weather protection.
Spyder's Outerwear categories were developed over 18 month calendar cycles. Textile development was undertaken prior to any concept or trend development. Fabric technologies and construction methods were then aligned into good, better, best, and elite ski team categories. Finally, trends and prints were developed for each seasonal collection.
